Canal Boat 1: Lyneal Wharf, Ellesmere, Sprout Wood to Welshampton Andy Fitton 6 miles / 7 hours £5 (£4 for children) |
We
take the 08.20 Minibus to Lyneal Wharf. At 09.00 our narrowboat sets
off and drops walkers off after Ellesmere tunnel. We start
walking from the canal over Sandy Lane to the mere at Ellesmere.
Afterwards, we continue with the walk via Spout Wood to
Welshampton Village Hall.
We will catch the minibus back to Whitchurch. A packed lunch and drink will be required. Register at 08:05am. |

The leaders have over 25 years experience and knowledge of the Park between them so it should make for an interesting walk! The terrain includes some steep and uneven steps. We catch the 09.43 service bus 146 to Bronnington from Tesco's (bring your bus pass if you have one!). Once we've arrived, we walk via Fenns’ Wood, Platt Lane, Roundthorn Bridge to the disabled mooring point near the Prees Canal junction. We board the canal boat, and are dropped off at Hampton Bank around 16.00. We catch the minibus back to Whitchurch. Please bring packed lunch and drink with you. |

Whittington Area Tony and Shiela Eccleston 6.5 miles £3 |
There will be a minibus both ways. Our walk starts from Whittington Castle, out on the B5009 via pavement, and over fields
across Perrymoor. From there across quiet lanes & fields to
Llangollen Canal where we will stop for refreshment break at Pollet's
Bridge. We then continue via Hindford Lane to Fern Lees. We go across fields and the River Perry marshes back into Whittington and finish at the castle. If time allows ,we will be able to enjoy a coffee in the castle cafe. Dogs are allowed but must be on short fixed lead throughout the walk. This is a fairly level walk throughout, except for a couple of uphill fields. Please bring a packed lunch and drink. |

09.45 | Three Meres Paul Sears 6.5 miles £3 | From
Whitchurch we head out across undulating countryside. Eventually we will the spectacular views over Blakemere looking back
across to Whitchurch. From here we walk to Oss Mere where there
is always plenty of wildlife. The final section is past the Mere with No Name, and back into Whitchurch across undulating easy countryside. Dogs are welcome on a fixed lead, but there are stiles. There will be a 10 minute refreshment break, so bring food and drinks with you. | ||
10.20 | Canal Boat 3: Bettisfield to Whixall Marina Malcolm Monie 5 miles / Day £5 (£4 for children) | We take the minibus at 10.20 to the car park which sits above Ellesmere tunnel. At around 11.00 the narrowboat will pick us up by the entrance to the tunnel and takes us to Bettisfield. We then walk to Cornhill Bridge, Bettisfield Moss and the Prees Branch Canal [nature reserve] to Whixall Marina. Minibus pickup at 15.30. Please bring a packed lunch and a drink with you. This circular walk within the town boundary aims to explore the railway history of Whitchurch, which was at one time a busy junction with branches to Chester and Oswestry. Much of the old railway infrastructure is no longer apparent but there are some remnants still to be seen and these will be examined. This guided walk will stop at various locations along the route and the leader will point out remaining features and with the aid of photographs show comparisons to the present day. | Full ! |

Come along to the Brownlow Centre where Jigsmith will be playing and calling the Cellidh. Doors open at 19.00. There will be a raffle and a delicious meat/vegetarian chilli to eat (included in the price). A bar will be available for you to buy your drinks (stocked with real ale). |
