Whitchurch Walking Festival
Friday 20th to Sunday 22nd May 2016

Pre - booking for walks is strongly advised. There are limited numbers on each walk but, subject to
spaces remaining, it will be possible to get places on the day up to 10 minutes before the start time. 
Free bottles of water and energy biscuits will be available to walkers at registration kindly supplied by 
The Co-operative

There will be a basic charge of £2 or £3 for most walks plus a small supplement for
transport (where shown). In the case of Hodnet Hall and Wollerton Old Hall
Gardens the
£15 (£12 children) includes admission to both gardens and transport.
The Canal Boat walks are
 £8 (£5 children) or £6 (£4 children). Children under 16 must be
accompanied and are free on other walks but must be included in bookings.
There is a charge of £4 for children and £8 for adults for th
e ceilidh.

Throughout the festival a self guided walk to Dearnford Lake is available.
Approximately 3 miles round trip, maps are available at registration.
There is a cafe at the lake.

The Black Bear will be holding a beer festival throughout the
Walk Festival featuring beers from Cumbria

Saturday Activities

Registration is required for all the walks, whether pre-booked or not,  and takes place from 30 minutes until 10 minutes before the start time. All walks start at the Cock and Greyhound pub except for the 'All Ability Walk' which starts at Hill Valley Golf Course car park.

Canal Boat 1.
Bus, Boat, Boots and Bombs.
(8 miles - 6.5 hours)
Minibus to Lyneal Wharf, boat to Roundthorne Bridge (by 12). Follow the Whixall Moss Military History Trail and walk back via Fenns Bank.
(Packed lunch and drink required)
Led by Peter Dunhill and Roger Dunshea.

Rail Ramble
(5 mile - 6 hours)
Depart Whitchurch Station 09.42 - Cost £7.80 return. Arrive Yorton 10.00.Coffee break on top of Grinshill whilst admiring the views. Walk to Tilley - purchase drink at the Raven where we can eat packed lunch. Leave at 2 pm and walk from Tilley to Wem to catch 2.37pm train back.
(Packed lunch required).

(5 miles - 4.5 hours)
Bus 146 at 09.45 to Bronington.(bus passes valid). Walk to Roundthorne Bridge (4 miles for 12 noon). Boat to Whitchurch Arm (1.30) and walk 1 mile back into town.
(packed lunch required)

Boat, Boots, Baz and Beer.
(5 miles - 3.5 hours)
Walk to Whitchurch Arm, boat from Whitchurch Arm (2 pm) to Fenns Bank. Walk back via canal, old Shropshire Way and Dansons Wood.

A short walk passing Belton Farm, home of Belton Cheese.

7.30 pm - 11.00 pm
Ceilidh at the Brownlow Centre, Claypit Street. Dancing to local band Jigsmith.
Hot food included. Licensed Bar with real ale kindly supplied by Joules Brewery and The Old Town Hall Vaults. Draw with some excellent prizes. Doors open 7.00 pm
Advance ticket recommended but may be available on the door. £8 (£4 for children).
