Whitchurch Walking Festival

Festival Launch Ceremony will take place at 09.30 am at the Cock and Greyhound Public House by Mayor, Cllr Mike McDonald
.

Pre - booking for walks is strongly advised. There are limited numbers on each walk but, subject to
spaces remaining, it will be possible to get places on the day up to 10 minutes before the start time.
Free bottles of water and energy biscuits will be available to walkers at registration kindly supplied by 
The Co-operative

There will be a basic charge of £2 or £3 for most walks plus a small supplement for
transport (where shown). In the case of Hodnet Hall and Wollerton Old Hall
Gardens the
£15 (£12 children) includes admission to both gardens and transport.
The Canal Boat walks are
 £8 (£5 children) or £6 (£4 children). Children under 16 must be
accompanied and are free on other walks but must be included in bookings.
There is a charge of £4 for children and £8 for adults for th
e ceilidh.

Throughout the festival a self guided walk to Dearnford Lake is available.
Approximately 3 miles round trip, maps are available at registration.
There is a cafe at the lake.

The Black Bear will be holding a beer festival throughout the
Walk Festival featuring beers from Cumbria

Friday Activities

Registration is required for all the walks, whether pre-booked or not,  and takes place from 30 minutes until 10 minutes before the start time. All walks start at the Cock and Greyhound pub except for the 'All Ability Walk' which starts at Hill Valley Golf Course car park.

A Wander into Wales
(5 miles - 2.5 hours) An attractive walk taking in the Llangollen Canal and a wander into Wales followed by an optional pub lunch at the Cock and Greyhound (order and pay on the day)

Audlem to Whitchurch
( 10.5 miles - 6 hours) Taking bus 73 at 10.20 am from Whitchurch Bus Station (English passes valid) and walk back to Whitchurch.
(Packed lunch and drink required)

Sandstone Sojourn
(5 miles - 3 hours) Walking from the Sandstone Pub at Coopers Moor around Brown Knoll, Mad Allen's Hole, Bickerton Hill, Maiden Castle and Heather Wood, some high ground with excellent views.

(1.5 miles - 1 hour) Register at Hill Valley Golf Course car park. Walk following tarmac paths, suitable for mobility scooters, wheelchairs and buggies.

Railway Heritage Walk
(3 miles - 2 hours)
A walk exploring the railway heritage of what was once a busy junction station and  was a major employer in the town.
